CME on Diabetes and Kidneys On ‘World Kidney Day ’

On the occasion to celebrate World Kidney Day , Central India Kidney Foundation in collaboration with Association of physicians of India organised a continuing medical education for doctors on Thursday , 11th March 2010 at hotel Centre Point , Ramdaspeth at 9 pm . Eminent Nephrologist Dr Jatin Kothari , Consultant Nephrologist Hinduja Hospital and Research Centre , Mumbai was the guest speaker .

Dr Jatin Kothari highlighted on “ Protect your kidneys , Control Diabetes ” this being the theme of world kidney day this year . Dr S.J.Acharya spoke on “ Why nephropathy in Diabetes “ highlighting the patho-physiological events that mark involvement of kidneys in diabetes . Diabetes is a major cause of kidney failure world wide . Approximately 40% of diabetic patients develop kidney failure . This was followed by a panel discussion on diabetic nephropathy . The chairpersons of the program were Dr R.G.Salkar , Dr Shailesh Pitale , Dr Khetan , Dr S.N.Deshmukh, Dr Dhananjay Ookalkar and Dr Pramod Gandhi.
Dr Nikhil Kibe, nephrologist from Akola conducted the program . Dr Prabhakar Deshpande Chairman , of Association of Physicians of India , Vidarbha Chapter ,welcomed the guests . Shri Anil Rathi , vice president of the foundation gave a summary of works done by kidney foundation . Dr Mrs Vandana Khushalani , president of Kidney foundation distributed scholarships to children of needy patients with kidney diseases . Dr Ramesh Mundle , secretary of API thanked the participants . Dr S.M.Patil , senior physician was the convener of this scientific feast .
