Central India Kidney Foundation ( CIKF ) in collaboration with Indian Medical Association , Academy of Medical Specialities , Nagpur celebrated World Kidney Day on Thursday , 10th March 2011. The program was held at Paithankar hall , IMA House , North Ambazari Road . The program was attended by a large section of people .
Every year World Kidney Day is celebrated all over the globe with the aim to create awareness about kidney diseases . This year the theme of this day is ‘ Protect your Kidneys , Save your Heart ‘ .
Dr Mrs Buche , eminent physician , diabetologist and cardiologist , Orange City Hospital , deliberated on ‘ Why blood pressure control is so important ?’ She described the patho-physiology of hypertension and stressed the importance of its control .
‘Dr Suryashree Pande , nephrologist , Wockhardt hospital spoke on ‘ Effect of kidney disease on heart ‘ and Dr Monali Sahu , nephrologist , Midas institute delivered a talk on ‘ Diabetes and Kidneys ‘ .
Prizes of the drawing competition held by CIKF on 26th January 2011 were distributed on this occasion . First prize for group A ( Below 8 years ) was bagged by Ishita Khaparde , second prize Minal Barapatre , third prize to Pratham Patel . In Group B , prizes werte , first prize Akhilesh Gaidhane , 2nd prize Pooja Meshram , 3rd Prize Pragati Nandanwar and in group C ( above 12 years ) , first prize to Swapnil Sayam , 2nd prize , Prashant Fadke , and 3rd Prize to miss Shweta Waghmare .
Blood sugar testing and spot urinary microalbumin tests were carried out for free of charge on this day .
Earlier Dr Prashant Nikhade ,president IMA , Dr Vandana Khushalani , President CIKF and Dr Sunil Gupta , President AMA-AMS welcomed the gathering . Shri Anil Gupta , vice president of CIKF distributed prizes of drawing competition . Dr Shivnarayan Acharya , hon.secretary IMA-AMS proposed a vote of thanks .
Dr Mrs Sushma Narkhede , Professor and Head , Department of environmental Sciences , Institute of Science conducted the programme .
